Description

Disc Brake Rotor Replacement Guide — Featuring RDA
> Disc brake rotors are your unsung heroes, working hard with the pads to bring your pride and joy to a halt. But, constant use, especially with those spirited drives in your Audi A4 or BMW 5 Series, can take its toll. They can wear, warp, or even crack.

Spotting the Warning Signs
• Squealing like a pig when you hit the brakes?
• Feeling a judder through the pedal?
• Taking longer to stop than you'd like?
• Seeing grooves, cracks, or rust on the rotor?
• Pads wearing unevenly?

Will it pass WOF?
Don't get caught out! Dodgy brake rotors are a surefire way to fail a WOF here in NZ. They need to be above the minimum thickness and free from any major damage.

DIY or Workshop?
Difficulty: 6/10
Estimated Time: 1-2 hours per rotor
Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, and potentially a brake caliper tool.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you dive in, mate, safety first! Never get under a car supported *only* by a jack. Use proper jack stands. Grab some safety glasses to keep the crud out of your eyes, and a pair of nitrile gloves – brake dust is a pain to get off. A can of Brake Cleaner will help blast away brake dust and grime, and a dab of anti-seize caliper grease will keep things smooth for next time. Don't skimp on the small stuff; it makes all the difference.

Worn rotors are a no-brainer when it comes to safety. Get them sorted to have your Audi or BMW stopping safely. Bob @ CARFIX is always on hand to help you work out exactly what part you need for your European sedan. Make sure you head over to Bob's Shop for a yarn!

Fitment Notes
Double-check those specs! Make sure the new rotors match your old ones in diameter, thickness, and bolt pattern. Audi and BMW love to mix things up depending on the year and model.

🛠️ Bob's Pro Tip: Do the Job Right!

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from grease and dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use Brake Cleaner to clean the anti-corrosion shipping oil off the new rotors before mounting the calipers.
• Lubrication: Apply caliper grease to caliper slide pins and pad contact points to prevent squealing.
