Description

Swapping Out Your Disc Brake Rotors — RDA's Got Your Back
> Your car's disc brake rotors are absolutely vital. They're the partner to your brake pads, working together to bring your Volkswagen Golf, Skoda Fabia, or Audi A1 to a safe stop. Over time, they can wear thin, warp out of shape, or even crack – which means dodgy braking and a potential WOF headache.
Uh Oh... Sounds Like You've Got These Symptoms?
• Brakes sound like a choir of squealing pigs or a metal grinder?
• Steering wheel doing the Macarena when you hit the brakes?
• Taking longer to stop than a freight train?
• Rotors looking worse for wear with cracks, deep grooves, or rust?
WOF Woes?
Worn or damaged brake rotors are a surefire way to fail your WOF here in NZ. Make sure your rotors are thicker than a decent steak and free from cracks to pass with flying colours.
DIY or Hand It Over to the Pros?
Difficulty: 6/10 (just a bit fiddly)
Estimated Time: Give yourself 1-2 hours per rotor – don't rush it!
Gear You'll Need: Jack, sturdy jack stands (never skimp on safety!), lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner (more on that later!), and maybe a brake caliper tool.
🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you get cracking, mate, safety first! Never, ever get under a car that's only held up by a jack – those jack stands are your best mates. Grab some Nitrile Gloves to keep your hands clean, and safety glasses are a no-brainer to keep that brake dust out of your eyes. Speaking of brake dust, you'll want a can of Brake Cleaner to blast away all that carbon buildup. And a little dab of anti-seize caliper grease on the right spots will keep things smooth for next time.
Bob's Two Cents
Worn rotors are a safety hazard, plain and simple, especially in your Volkswagen Golf, Skoda Fabia, or Audi A1. Get them sorted with quality rotors like the RDA ones for braking you can rely on. Pop into Bob's Shop, and we'll get you sorted with the right parts for your ride!
Important Bits
Always do both rotors at the same time – no point having one brake working better than the other! Double-check the rotor size and specs to make sure they're the right fit for your Volkswagen Golf, Skoda Fabia, Audi A1, or whatever you're working on. Some models can be a bit picky and need special tools, too.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from grease and dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use Brake Cleaner to clean the anti-corrosion shipping oil off the new rotors before mounting the calipers.
• Lubrication: Apply caliper grease to caliper slide pins and pad contact points to prevent squealing.
