Description

Swapping Out Your Disc Brake Rotors — the RDA Way!
> Disc brake rotors are the unsung heroes in your Peugeot 406's braking setup. They take a hammering from friction and heat, and over time, that takes its toll. If they're past their best, your braking won't be as sharp, which can be a worry, especially in heavy traffic or tackling those twisty roads we love.
Signs Your Rotors Might Be Kaput
• Brakes squealing like a stuck pig?
• Feeling a judder through the pedal when you brake?
• Taking longer to pull up than usual?
• Rotors looking a bit worse for wear with grooves or damage?
• Brake pads wearing unevenly?
WOF Woes?
Dodgy disc brake rotors are a quick way to fail a WOF here in NZ. They need to be above the minimum thickness and in good nick to pass the test.
DIY or Get a Pro?
Difficulty: 6/10
Time Needed: Give yourself 1.5 - 2 hours per axle
Gear You'll Need: Jack and stands (safety first!), wheel wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, and new brake pads (good idea to do them together).
🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
• Safety First, Mates!: Never, ever get under your 406 supported only by a jack. Use proper axle stands. And chuck on some Safety Glasses – you only get one set of eyes!
• Cleanliness is Key: Brake dust is nasty stuff. Give everything a good blast with Brake Cleaner before you start pulling things apart. This stuff will help blast away all the carbon dust.
• Protect Your Pride and Joy: A few old rags or a drop sheet will keep any spilled brake fluid or grease off your driveway.
• Lube It Up: A smear of anti-seize Caliper Grease on the caliper bolts will make life easier next time you're in there. And don't forget a good pair of Nitrile Gloves to keep your hands clean.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from grease and dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use Brake Cleaner to clean the anti-corrosion shipping oil off the new rotors before mounting the calipers.
• Lubrication: Apply caliper grease to caliper slide pins and pad contact points to prevent squealing.
