Swapping Out Your BMW's Brake Rotors — The RDA Way
> Disc brake rotors are dead important for stopping your BMW 5 Series. They're what the brake pads grab onto to slow you down. Over time, they can wear out, warp, or crack from the heat and hard use, especially if you're heavy on the brakes, or the car is a heavy one. Time for a cafe lunch and a brake job!
Symptoms That Led You Here
• Brake pedal feels like it's vibrating
• Brakes are squealing or grinding
• Taking longer to stop than it used to
• You can see cracks or grooves on the rotor
• Your brake pads are wearing unevenly
Will it pass WOF?
Worn brake rotors are a classic reason for failing a WOF here in NZ. Your rotors need to be thick enough and without cracks to pass the test.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Alright, before you get cracking on those rotors, let's make sure you're set up for success, yeah?
• Safety First, Chur: Never, ever get under a car that's only held up by a jack. Use proper stands; your life's worth it. And chuck on some Safety Glasses to keep the metal dust out of your eyes.
• Keep It Clean: Brake dust is a mongrel. Grab a can of Brake Cleaner to blast that carbon dust away before you start pulling things apart. Makes the job way nicer.
• Glove Up: Keep your hands clean and protected with some Nitrile Gloves. Brake cleaner and old brake parts aren't exactly kind to your skin.
• Grease is Your Mate: When you're putting things back together, use a dab of anti-seize caliper grease on the caliper bolts. Makes life easier next time.
Expert Recommendation
Worn brake rotors mean your BMW won't stop as well as it should, and that's not ideal. Replacing them keeps you safe and stops other brake bits from getting damaged. The RDA rotor will do the job, but CARFIX has plenty of options for all budgets. Bob @ CARFIX is always here to suss out the exact part you need for your BMW 5 Series. Pop into Bob's Shop for a yarn!
Fitment Notes
Make sure the new rotors are the right size and type for your specific BMW 5 Series. Some models have different rotor sizes. Always do both sides at once for even braking.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from grease and dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use Brake Cleaner to clean the anti-corrosion shipping oil off the new rotors before mounting the calipers.
• Lubrication: Apply caliper grease to caliper slide pins and pad contact points to prevent squealing.
