Swapping Out Your BMW M3 Brake Rotors — The RDA Way
> Your BMW M3's brake rotors are dead important for stopping safely. They're the surface your brake pads clamp onto. Over time, especially with how M3s get driven, these rotors can wear out, warp, or even crack. Time for a change, bro!
Uh Oh, Sounds Like You've Got These Symptoms:
• Brake pedal's got a pulse or shakes like crazy
• Brakes squealing like a gutted pig or grinding like dusty metal tracks
• Takes a heck of a lot longer to stop than it used to
• Can see cracks or grooves in the rotor
• Brake pads wearing unevenly? That's not the WOF you want.
Will it pass WOF?
Worn or rooted disc brake rotors are a surefire way to fail your WOF here in NZ. Rotors need to be above minimum thickness and without cracks to pass the test.
DIY or Workshop?
Difficulty: 6/10 (not a total no-brainer, but doable)
Estimated Time: An hour or two per rotor, give or take
Tools You'll Need: Jack and stands, wheel wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, and new brake pads (good idea while you're at it!)
🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Alright, before you get cracking, a few quick safety and prep tips from yours truly:
• Safety First, Chur: Never, ever get under a car supported only by a jack. Use proper jack stands – your life's worth more than a cafe lunch.
• Keep it Clean: Brake dust is nasty stuff. Give your hands a good scrub afterwards, and wear safety glasses to keep the dust out of your eyes. Grab some Nitrile Gloves while you're at it.
• Protect Yer Gear: Use a bit of cardboard or an old blanket to protect your driveway or garage floor from spills and grime.
• Consumables are Key: Don't forget the Brake Cleaner to blast away brake dust and grime. A little anti-seize caliper grease will help things go back together smoothly, too.

Worn rotors? That's a big no-no for your M3's performance and safety. Replacing them brings back that sharp braking feel. Bob's always here at CARFIX to sort you out with the right parts, so pop in for a yarn!
Fitment Notes
Double-check it fits your specific BMW M3 year (1992-1999) and model (including M3-R, of course). Rotor size and thickness are key!

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from grease and dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use Brake Cleaner to clean the anti-corrosion shipping oil off the new rotors before mounting the calipers.
• Lubrication: Apply caliper grease to caliper slide pins and pad contact points to prevent squealing.
