Description

Disc Brake Rotor Replacement: The "No Worries" Guide
> Your Volvo V40 or Mitsubishi Carisma's disc brake rotors are *pretty important*. They wear down over time from heat and friction. It's a no-brainer: worn rotors mean dodgy braking, especially on those tough NZ roads. Don't get caught out!
Symptoms That Led You Here
• Brake pedal feels like it's pulsing or vibrating? Not good.
• Brakes squealing like a gutted pig?
• Taking way too long to stop?
• Rotors look scored or rusty?
• Brake pads wearing unevenly?
Will it pass WOF?
Worn brake rotors are a quick way to fail a WOF here in New Zealand. They need to be above minimum thickness and in good nick to pass the test. Otherwise, you'll be heading to your local mechanic for a cafe lunch and repairs.
DIY or Workshop?
Difficulty: 6/10
Estimated Time: 1-2 hours per rotor
Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, and maybe a brake caliper tool.
🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
• Safety First, Mates! Never, ever get under a car that's only supported by a jack. Use proper jack stands. Safety glasses are a must to keep that brake dust out of your peepers.
• Keep it Clean: Brake dust is nasty stuff. Grab some Brake Cleaner to blast it off the rotors and calipers. It'll help everything go back together smoothly.
• Glove Up: Protect your hands with some heavy-duty Nitrile Gloves. Brake cleaner and old brake fluid aren't your skin's best mate.
• Lube It Right: Use a dab of anti-seize caliper grease on the caliper bolts and the back of the brake pads (where they contact the caliper). This will stop things seizing up and reduce noise.
Expert Recommendation
Worn rotors are a safety risk. Replacing them keeps your Volvo V40 or Mitsubishi Carisma stopping like it should and helps avoid accidents. Bob @ CARFIX is always on hand to help you work out exactly what part you need for your vehicle. Make sure you head over to Bob's Shop for a chat!
Fitment Notes
Make sure the new rotors are the right size for your Volvo V40, Mitsubishi Carisma or Proton Persona. Check the diameter, thickness, and bolt pattern. Some models have different rotor sizes depending on the year and trim level.

• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from grease and dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use Brake Cleaner to clean the anti-corrosion shipping oil off the new rotors before mounting the calipers.
• Lubrication: Apply caliper grease to caliper slide pins and pad contact points to prevent squealing.
