Swapping Out Your Disc Brake Rotors — With RDA
> Your Volvo V40 or S40 relies on its disc brake rotors to stop safely. Over time, all that friction and heat from daily driving around NZ takes its toll. Worn rotors mean longer stopping distances, and nobody wants that.
Spotting the Trouble
• Brakes squealing like a stuck pig?
• Feeling a judder in the pedal when you brake?
• Taking longer to pull up at the lights?
• Rotors looking rusty, scored, or just plain sad?
Will it pass WOF?
Buggered brake rotors are a dead cert for a WOF failure here in New Zealand. They gotta be above the minimum thickness and in good nick to pass the test.
DIY or Workshop?

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you get cracking on those brakes, mate, a little prep goes a long way. Safety first, always! Grab yourself some Nitrile Gloves to keep the hands clean from brake dust, which you don't want getting into any open cuts. A good blast of Brake Cleaner on the rotors and calipers will get rid of all that carbon dust. And don't forget some anti-seize caliper grease for the threads. Lastly, and most importantly, eye protection in the form of Safety Glasses is a must for keeping stray brake dust out of the eyes. Never get under a car supported only by a jack - always use proper stands!
