Volvo Disc Brake Rotor Replacement Guide — Featuring RDA
> G'day! Your Volvo's disc brake rotors are what the brake pads squeeze to slow you down. Over time, they wear out, especially with all the stop-start driving around town in your 960 or 740. Time for a change, eh?
Symptoms That Led You Here
• Squealing like a stuck pig when you brake
• The brake pedal's vibrating like crazy
• Taking way too long to stop
• Rotors are cracked or have deep grooves
• Brake pads wearing unevenly
Will it pass WOF?
Buggered brake rotors are a common reason for failing a WOF here in New Zealand. Your rotors need to be above the minimum thickness and not cracked to pass the test.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you get cracking, mate, safety first! Never get under a car supported only by a jack – use proper stands. Grab some safety glasses to keep the dust out of your peepers and nitrile gloves to keep those mitts clean. Give those rotors a good blast with Brake Cleaner to get rid of all that carbon dust. A wee smear of anti-seize caliper grease will also help keep things smooth.
Expert Recommendation
Worn rotors mean your Volvo 960 or 740 won't stop as well as it should. New rotors mean better braking and less chance of damaging other parts. RDA is a good brand, but CARFIX has others. Bob @ CARFIX is always here to help you find the right part for your Volvo. Pop over to Bob's Shop for a yarn!
Fitment Notes
Make sure the new rotors are the right size for your Volvo. Check the diameter and thickness, especially across the 740, 940, and 960 models.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from grease and dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use Brake Cleaner to clean the anti-corrosion shipping oil off the new rotors before mounting the calipers.
• Lubrication: Apply caliper grease to caliper slide pins and pad contact points to prevent squealing.
