Swapping Out Your Brake Pads — TRW Style
> Your brake pads are what bring your trusty steed to a halt, using friction to get the job done. Over time, all that stopping takes its toll, especially if you're cruising around town in a FIAT UNO or LANCIA DEDRA. Worn pads mean less stopping power and can even damage your rotors – not ideal!
Signs It's Time for New Pads
• Hear a squeal or a nasty grinding when you hit the brakes?
• Braking feels a bit soft or not as sharp as it used to?
• Pedal feels spongy? That's not a good sign!
• Can actually *see* the pads are looking thin or worn out?
• Car pulling to one side when braking?
WOF Worries?
Dodgy brake pads are a surefire way to fail your WOF here in NZ. Your pads have to be thick enough to pull you up safely. Best to check 'em regularly to make sure you're up to scratch.

Before you dive in, mate, safety first! Grab yourself some safety glasses to keep the crud out of your peepers, and a pair of nitrile gloves to keep your hands clean. While you're at it, a can of Brake Cleaner is gold for blasting away all that nasty brake dust. And don't forget a bit of [anti-seize caliper grease] to keep things moving smoothly. Never get under a car supported only by a jack!

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
