Description

Brake Pad Replacement: Get it Sorted with TRW
> Brake pads? Crucial, eh? They're what stops you, turning all that go-power into heat when they clamp on the rotors. They wear out over time, especially if you're giving it heaps in a Falcon GT or Commodore V8. Let's get them sorted.

Spotting the Warning Signs
• Squealing like a pig when you hit the brakes?
• Taking longer to pull up than a cafe lunch?
• Brake pedal feeling softer than butter?
• Pads looking a bit sad and worn?
• That pesky brake light's lit up on the dash?

WOF Woes?
Dodgy brake pads are a surefire way to fail your WOF. They need to be thick enough to actually, you know, stop the car! Check the Land Transport NZ guidelines for all the nitty-gritty.

DIY or Hand it Over?
Difficulty: 6/10
Time Needed: 2-4 hours (for all four corners)
Gear You'll Need: Jack, stands, spanners, sockets, brake cleaner, C-clamp (or brake spreader).

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Right, before you get cracking, a few things to keep you safe and the job clean:
• Safety First, Mates: Never, ever get under a car supported only by a jack! Use proper jack stands. And chuck on some Safety Glasses to keep the brake dust out of your peepers.
• Keep it Clean: Brakes create nasty carbon dust. Grab some Brake Cleaner to blast it off the rotors and calipers. Makes the job easier and safer.
• Glove Up: Protect your hands with some Nitrile Gloves. Brake dust and grease are not your skin's best mate.
• Stop the Squeal: A wee dab of anti-seize caliper grease on the contact points will keep things quiet.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
