Description

Swapping Out Your Honda Civic Brake Pads — The TRW Way
> Time to give your Honda Civic's brakes some love? Worn brake pads can make stopping a bit dicey, especially in older models. This guide will walk you through getting those pads replaced, so you can cruise with confidence.

Uh Oh, Sounds Like You've Got These Symptoms
• Brakes are squealing like a piglet or grinding like your gears aren't meshing.
• Braking feels like you're trying to stop a runaway bull.
• Brake pedal's softer than a cafe lunch roll.
• Pads are looking thinner than your wallet after a night out.
• Car's pulling to one side when you hit the brakes – not ideal!

WOF Woes?
Worn brake pads are a guaranteed fail at WOF time, mate. They need to have enough meat on them to actually stop the car. The inspector will be all over this, so don't risk it!

DIY or Hand it to a Pro?
Difficulty: 6/10
Estimated Time: 2-3 hours
Tools Required: Jack and stands, wrench set, socket set, C-clamp, brake cleaner, torque wrench.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you get cracking on those brakes, grab these essentials to make the job safer and easier:
• Safety First: Don't be a gumby – always wear safety glasses to protect your eyes from brake dust and debris. And never, ever get under a car supported only by a jack! Use proper stands, or you'll be gutted.
• Keep it Clean: Brake dust is nasty stuff. Grab a can of Brake Cleaner to blast away all that carbon buildup before you start, and after. It'll help your new pads bed in properly and prevent squealing.
• Glove Up: Protect your hands from the grime with a set of Nitrile Gloves. They'll keep your hands clean and give you a better grip on those tools.
• Lube It Right: Use a dab of anti-seize Caliper Grease on the caliper bolts and the back of the pads to prevent sticking and squealing. A little goes a long way!

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
