Swapping Out Those Brake Pads — TRW Style
> Your brake pads are what bring your Nissan to a safe halt, turning all that forward motion into heat. They wear down over time, especially if you're driving a Nissan Atlas, Civilian, or Murano that's always stopping and starting or hauling heavy loads. Time for a change, eh?
Uh Oh, Sounds Like You've Got These Symptoms:
• Squealing like a pig when you hit the brakes
• Doesn't quite pull up like it used to
• Takes a longer stretch to stop than you're happy with
• Feels like the brake pedal's doing the Macarena
• Can see the pads are looking a bit sad
Will it pass WOF?
Dodgy brake pads are a surefire way to fail your WOF here in New Zealand. Your pads need to be thick enough to stop you safely. Check out the Land Transport NZ guidelines to know the score.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you get cracking, mate, safety first! Never get under a car supported only by a jack – always use proper jack stands. Give those brake discs a good blast with some Brake Cleaner to get rid of that nasty brake dust (that stuff's not good for ya). Smear a bit of anti-seize caliper grease on the right spots to keep things moving smoothly, and don't forget your Nitrile Gloves to keep your hands clean. Safety glasses are a no-brainer, too – you don't want any crud in your eyes.
Expert Recommendation
Replacing those brake pads is a no-brainer for road safety. Worn ones mean you won't stop as quick, especially in bigger vehicles like the Nissan Atlas and Civilian. Bob @ CARFIX is always here to suss out the exact part you need for your Nissan. Come have a yarn at Bob's Shop!
Fitment Notes
Double-check these pads fit your exact Nissan Atlas, Civilian, or Murano model and year. Some have different brake setups or pad sizes. Always check before you buy!

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
