Swapping Out Your Brake Pads — The TRW Way
> Brake pads are what stop you, and they wear out over time. Got a Toyota Land Cruiser or Lexus LX570 that does a bit of towing or off-roading? You'll chew through pads faster than you think. Best to keep an eye on them and swap 'em out when they're looking thin to keep your braking top-notch.
Uh Oh, Sounds Like You've Got These Symptoms:
• Squealing like a stuck pig when you hit the brakes
• Brakes feel a bit... slow?
• Taking longer to stop than you'd like
• The brake pedal's doing the Macarena (vibrating)
• Can see the pads are looking pretty sad
Will it pass WOF?
Worn brake pads are a super common reason for failing a WOF here in NZ. They reckon your pads need enough meat on them to actually stop the thing. Give 'em a squiz regularly to make sure you're all legal.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Alright, before you get cracking, let's make sure you're sorted. Safety first, always!
• Safety Glasses: Don't want any brake dust or debris in your peepers. Grab some Safety Glasses.
• Nitrile Gloves: Keep those mitts clean and protected from brake fluid and grime. Nitrile Gloves are your best mate here.
• Brake Cleaner: Blast away all that nasty brake dust and gunk. Makes the job cleaner and helps the new pads bed in properly. Brake Cleaner is a must-have.
• Caliper Grease: A wee dab of anti-seize caliper grease on the caliper pins ensures everything moves freely and prevents annoying squeals. Get some decent stuff from any auto shop.
Expert Recommendation
Swapping out your brake pads is a no-brainer for keeping your Land Cruiser or LX570 safe and sound. Worn pads mean longer stopping distances, and nobody wants that. Bob @ CARFIX is always keen to help you find the perfect part for your beast. Pop into Bob's Shop for a yarn!
Fitment Notes
Double-check the pads fit your specific model and year. Some have different brake setups. Always do both sides at once, too, for even braking. No point in having one side stopping better than the other!
Bob's Tip: Always pump the brake pedal a few times before you take off in the car to make sure the calipers are seated properly.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
