Swapping Out Your Brake Pads — Featuring TRW
> Your Toyota Estima, Previa, Tarago, Alphard, or Vellfire's brake pads are a critical wear item, turning all that forward motion into heat when you need to stop. Over time, they wear down, and that means less braking power – not ideal when you're carting the family around. So, let's get them sorted.
Symptoms That Led You Here
• Squealing or grinding when you hit the brakes
• Braking feels a bit soft or slow to respond
• The pedal feels spongy under your foot
• You can see the pads are looking thin or damaged
• That pesky brake warning light's lit up on the dash
Will it pass WOF?
Worn brake pads are a surefire way to fail a WOF here in New Zealand. They need to be thick enough to pull you up safely. Check out the Land Transport NZ guidelines for the exact minimums.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
• Safety First, Eh?: Never, ever get under a car that's only held up by a jack. Use proper jack stands without fail.
• Cleanliness is Key: Give those brake components a good blast with some Brake Cleaner to get rid of all that nasty brake dust. It's not good for your lungs, either.
• Lube It Up: Use a dab of anti-seize Caliper Grease on the caliper pins to keep everything moving smoothly. A little goes a long way.
• Hand Protection: Brake dust is grim. Grab some Nitrile Gloves to keep your hands clean and protected.
• Eye Protection: Safety glasses are cheap insurance. Keep the brake dust out of your eyes!
Expert Recommendation
Swapping out your brake pads is dead important for keeping your Toyota Estima, Previa, Tarago, Alphard, or Vellfire safe. If your pads are worn, your braking won't be up to scratch, and that's a risk you don't want to take, especially with precious cargo on board. Fitment Notes
Double-check these brake pads are the right fit for your specific year and model of Toyota Estima, Previa, Tarago, Alphard, or Vellfire. Some models can have different brake setups or pad designs, so do your homework.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
