Swapping Out Your Brake Pads — the TRW Way
> Your Mitsubishi Lancer or Jeep Compass relies on its brake pads every time you hit the anchors. They turn all that forward motion into heat by squeezing against the rotors. Over time, that friction wears them down, and your stopping power takes a dive, especially if you're battling Auckland traffic or tackling those tough conditions down south.
Uh Oh... Sounds Like You've Got These Symptoms:
• Brakes are making a racket – squealing like a banshee or grinding something nasty.
• Taking longer to pull up, or the brakes feel a bit soft.
• Brake pedal feels like a sponge.
• Pads look thinner than a cafe lunch after a visual check.
• That pesky brake warning light's lit up on the dash.
Will it pass WOF?
Worn brake pads? Yeah, that's a surefire way to fail your WOF here in New Zealand. They gotta be a decent thickness to keep you safe on the roads.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you get cracking, here's a few things to keep in mind to make sure the job's done right, and you're safe as houses.
• Safety First, Eh? Never, ever get under a car that's only held up by a jack. Use proper stands, yeah? And chuck on some safety glasses – you don't want any brake dust in your peepers.
• Keep It Clean, Bro: Brake dust is nasty stuff. Grab some Nitrile Gloves to keep your hands clean, and a can of Brake Cleaner to blast away the muck from the rotors and calipers.
• Lube It Up: A little anti-seize caliper grease on the caliper pins and pad contact points will keep everything moving smoothly and quietly. A little goes a long way.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
