Brake Pad Swap-Out: The TRW Way
> Brake pads? They're the unsung heroes, clamping down on your rotors to bring you to a halt. They wear out over time, like anything that gets a hiding. Especially in a smooth-riding luxo-barge.
Tell-tale Signs You've Found This Page
• Brakes sound like a flock of seagulls arguing.
• Pedal feels like you're stepping on a sponge.
• Steering wheel's doing the Macarena when you brake.
• Taking longer to stop than a freight train.
• Pads are thinner than your cafe lunch order.
WOF Worthy?
Nah mate, you'll fail a WOF faster than you can say 'sweet as'. Brakes need to be up to scratch, no arguments.
DIY or Calling in the Pros?
Difficulty: 6/10 (A good Saturday arvo job)
Estimated Time: An hour or two per axle, give or take.
Gear You'll Need: Jack, axle stands (never skimp on safety!), trusty lug wrench, G-clamp or piston compressor, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, wire brush, and maybe a brake bleeder if you crack open the lines.
🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you even think about touching that first bolt, grab yourself some Brake Cleaner. It'll blast away all that nasty brake dust – you don't want to be breathing that in. Safety glasses are a no-brainer to keep the crud out of your eyes, and a decent set of Nitrile Gloves will save your hands from looking like you've been wrestling a mechanic. A wee smear of anti-seize grease on the caliper bolts will make life easier next time around, too.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
