Description

New Brake Pads for Your Ride — TRW Featured
> Brake pads? Yeah, they wear down. It's their job! They're what stops your car, turning all that go-power into a nice, safe stop. For MINIs and BMW 2 Series, good brakes aren't just nice, they're a must, especially the way we drive 'em here in NZ.
Sounds Like You've Got These Issues:
• Brakes are squealing like a piglet.
• Pedal feels soft, and you're not stopping like you used to.
• Steering wheel's doing the shimmy when you brake.
• Car's pulling to one side when you hit the brakes.
• Dashboard's lit up like a Christmas tree with a brake warning light.
WOF Time?
Nah, mate. If your brake pads are thinner than a cafe lunch, you're not getting a WOF. Uneven wear? Contamination? Fail, fail, fail.
DIY or Get a Pro?
How Hard? 6/10 (A Decent Challenge)
How Long? Give yourself a couple of hours per axle.
What You'll Need: Jack, stands (never skip these!), wheel brace, something to squeeze the caliper piston back in (a C-clamp or the proper tool), spanners, sockets, torque wrench, brake cleaner, wire brush. Safety glasses and gloves are a no-brainer.
🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
• Safety First, Mates!: Brakes are life savers, so don't muck around with dodgy setups. Safety glasses are crucial to keep that brake dust out of your eyes, and never, ever get under a car supported only by a jack. Get proper axle stands; your life's worth it.
• Cleanliness is King: Brake dust is nasty stuff. Give those calipers and rotors a good blast with Brake Cleaner to get rid of it before you start pulling things apart. Trust me, your lungs will thank you.
• Protect Your Investment: A little bit of anti-seize compound on the caliper bolts will make your life easier next time you're in there. Copper grease on the back of the pads will stop that annoying squeal.
• Lube It Up: Make sure the caliper slides are moving freely. If they're a bit sticky, clean 'em up and give 'em a bit of silicone grease. This helps the pads wear evenly.
• Glove Up: Brake fluid and brake dust aren't exactly good for your skin. Grab some Nitrile Gloves to keep your hands clean and protected.
Expert Recommendation
I, Bob @ CARFIX, reckon you should change your pads before they're completely rooted. Save your rotors, save your bacon. TRW pads like these (GDB2087) are a solid choice, built tough for your MINI or BMW. Pop into Bob's Shop, and we'll sort you out.
Fitment Notes
These TRW pads (GDB2087) fit the front of several MINIs (Cooper SD, Cooper S JCW, One, CLUBMAN Cooper) and BMW 2 Series (218 d, 218 i). Double-check your chassis code and build date to be 100% sure they're the right ones.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
