Swapping Out Your Brake Pads — TRW Edition
> Brake pads? Yeah, they're kinda important. They clamp down on the rotors to bring you to a halt. They wear out over time, especially if you're giving your VW Passat or Audi A3 a bit of stick. Time to get them sorted, eh?
Uh Oh... Symptoms Telling You Something's Up
• Hear a squeal or a nasty grinding when you hit the brakes?
• Brakes feeling a bit soft or taking longer to pull you up?
• That little light on the dash is glaring at you?
• Had a peek and the pads look a bit sad?
• Feel a wobble or judder through the pedal?
Will it pass WOF?
Dodgy brakes are a surefire way to fail a WOF here in NZ. Your pads need to be a decent thickness to keep you safe and legal.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Right, before you get stuck in, a bit of housekeeping. Brakes create nasty carbon dust, so safety glasses are a no-brainer. Grab some Nitrile Gloves too – keeps the hands clean, eh? Give everything a good blast with Brake Cleaner to get rid of that carbon dust. And don't forget a smear of anti-seize caliper grease on the right spots to keep things smooth. Never get under a car supported only by a jack – use proper stands!

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
