Description

Brake Pad Replacement: The TRW Way
> Brake pads are a wear item, plain and simple. They create friction against the rotors to slow you down. Over time, that friction wears them out. If you drive a Holden Cruze or Chevrolet Cruze, you'll want to keep an eye on these. When they wear out, your braking suffers, and you might hear some nasty noises.

How'd You End Up Here?
• Squealing like a stuck pig when you hit the brakes
• Brakes feel soft as butter, not firm and responsive
• The steering wheel or brake pedal vibrates when stopping
• Taking longer to pull up than usual
• Dashboard warning light's lit up (if your car's got the sensors)

WOF Worthy?
Nah mate, worn brake pads are a quick way to fail your WOF. They're a safety must-have. The legal limit's around 1.5mm of pad left, but most mechanics will tell you to swap them out closer to 3mm or 4mm for peace of mind.

DIY or Get a Pro?
Difficulty: 6/10 (A Decent Challenge)
Time Needed: An afternoon, maybe 1-2 hours per axle
Gear You'll Need: Jack, axle stands (never skip these!), lug wrench, C-clamp or piston compressor, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, wire brush, and maybe some caliper grease.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Alright, before you get stuck in, safety first! Grab some Nitrile Gloves to keep your hands clean from all that brake dust – it's nasty stuff. And don't forget a pair of Safety Glasses to protect your eyes from flying debris. Give everything a good blast with Brake Cleaner to get rid of the grime and carbon dust. When reassembling, a little dab of anti-seize caliper grease on the right spots will keep things smooth and prevent future squealing. Remember, never get under a car supported only by a jack – axle stands are your best mate here!

Bob's Two Cents
I reckon you should swap out those brake pads the moment they're looking thin. The TRW GDB1843s are a solid choice – good quality and they'll fit your Holden or Chevrolet Cruze like a glove. Keep an eye on them regularly, especially with the varied conditions we get here in NZ.

Fitment Notes
These pads are made for a bunch of Holden Cruze and Chevrolet Cruze models, including DTFi, i, and Turbo models from 2009 onwards, plus Opel Astra LPGs. Double-check the year, make, model, and engine to be 100% sure they're the right fit.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
