Volvo XC90 Brake Pad Replacement: A Kiwi DIY Guide
> Your Volvo XC90's brake pads are what pull you up at the lights, using friction to slow you down. Being a bigger SUV they can wear out pretty quick, especially if you're doing a lot of stop-start driving. Don't get caught out with a failed WOF!
Spotting the Warning Signs
• Squealing like a pig when you hit the brakes?
• Taking longer to pull up than usual? That's not ideal.
• Dashboard light screaming at you?
• Pads looking a bit thin or worse for wear?
• One pad worn more than the other? Caliper might be sticking, mate.
Will it pass WOF?
Worn-out brake pads are a guaranteed fail in a Warrant of Fitness inspection. They need to be thick enough to do their job properly. Check the official Land Transport NZ guidelines to be sure.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you get stuck in, a quick yarn about safety and making the job easier. First, safety glasses – no one wants brake dust in their eyes! Grab some Nitrile Gloves too; brake dust is a pain to clean off your skin. And definitely give everything a good blast with Brake Cleaner to get rid of that stubborn carbon dust. A wee smear of anti-seize on the caliper bolts will help next time you're in there.

Replacing your XC90's brake pads is a no-brainer for safety. Dodgy brakes are a recipe for disaster. Give Bob @ CARFIX a yell if you're not sure what you need. He's always happy to help!
Fitment Notes
Double-check these pads fit your exact XC90 model and year. Some models have different setups. Always do both sides at once for even braking. It's just good practice.

🛠️ Bob's Pro Tip: Do the Job Right!

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
