Swapping Out Your Brake Pads — With TRW
> Your BMW's brake pads are the unsung heroes, turning all that 'going' energy into 'stopping' heat. They take a hammering, especially if you're giving it a bit of stick in your 3 Series. Eventually, they wear down, and your braking goes to custard. Let's get them sorted.
How'd You Know They Needed Doing?
• Squealing like a stuck pig when you hit the brakes.
• Brakes feeling a bit soft or taking longer to pull you up.
• That pesky brake pad warning light shining at you.
• Pads looking thinner than a cafe lunch slice of ham.
• One pad wearing faster than the others.
Will it pass WOF?
Buggered brake pads are an instant WOF fail here in NZ. They gotta be thick enough to pull you up safely.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you get cracking, mate, safety first! Never get under a car supported only by a jack. Use proper stands. Grab some safety glasses to keep the brake dust out of your peepers and nitrile gloves to keep the hands clean. Now, braking generates heat and dust, so give your rotors a good blast with some brake cleaner to get rid of that carbon buildup. A wee smear of anti-seize caliper grease on the right spots will keep things moving smoothly and prevent annoying squeals. Trust me, a little prep goes a long way in these tough conditions.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
