Description

Swapping Out Your Brake Pads — With TRW
> Brake pads are one of those things that wear out on your SEAT IBIZA TDI, VW Polo GTI, or Skoda Fabia. All that stopping turns your car's energy into heat, grinding away at the pads. Over time, they get thinner from heat, pressure, and all the grit on our roads, and your braking just isn't as sharp as it used to be. Time for a change!
Signs You Might Need New Pads
• Brakes making a racket – squealing or grinding sounds.
• Takes longer to stop, or the car doesn't pull up as quickly.
• Brake pedal feels soft, like you're stepping on a sponge.
• You can see the pads are looking thin or damaged.
• That pesky brake warning light's lit up on your dash.
WOF Time Coming Up?
Worn brake pads are a surefire way to fail your WOF here in NZ. They need to be above the minimum thickness, and in good nick, to pass the test.

Expert Opinion
Keeping your brake pads in good condition is a no-brainer for safe driving in your SEAT IBIZA TDI, VW Polo GTI, or Skoda Fabia. 🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you dive in, a couple of must-dos for a safe and tidy job:
• Safety First, Mates! Never, ever get under a car that's only held up by a jack. Always use proper Axle Stands. No exceptions!
• Keep it Clean: Brakes generate a LOT of nasty dust. Grab a can of Brake Cleaner to blast away the grime and keep things healthy. Makes the job easier, too.
• Lube is Your Friend: A little Caliper Grease on the right spots (check a guide!) keeps everything moving smoothly and prevents annoying squeals later on.
• Protect Yourself: Wear Safety Glasses to keep the brake dust out of your eyes, and a pair of Nitrile Gloves to keep the brake dust off your hands. Brake dust is not your friend.

Bob's top tip: When in doubt, give us a yell! We're here to help you get it sorted.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
