Description

Swapping Out Your Brake Pads — TRW Style
> Brake pads, eh? They're what stops you safely, so keeping them in good nick is a no-brainer. Especially if you're zipping around in a SEAT IBIZA or VW Polo doing the daily grind, you want brakes you can trust.
Telltale Signs You're Due for a Change
• Brakes screeches like a banshee or sounds like grinding metal.
• Your stopping distance is getting longer than a summer holiday.
• That brake pedal feels softer than a cafe lunch.
• You can see the pads are looking worse for wear.
• That pesky brake warning light's glaring at ya.
WOF Woes?
Dodgy brake pads are a surefire way to fail your WOF here in NZ. They gotta be thick enough to pull you up safely. Check the Land Transport NZ guidelines for the minimum legal thickness.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you dive in, mate, safety first! Grab some Nitrile Gloves to keep your hands clean from that brake dust. Give everything a good blast with Brake Cleaner to get rid of any built-up grime. And for those stubborn caliper bolts, a little dab of anti-seize caliper grease can be your best friend, so you don't have a barney getting them undone when you are next replacing your pads. Most importantly, never get under a car supported only by a jack! Use proper axle stands; your life's worth more than saving a few minutes.

Double-check these pads fit your exact year and model. Some cars have different setups, especially on models like the VW Golf and SEAT Toledo. Measure twice, fit once!

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
