Description

Swapping Out Your Brake Pads — TRW Style
> Your brake pads are like the tread on your tyres – they wear down over time. For SUVs like the Nissan Terrano II and Pathfinder, which tackle everything from the school run to dusty metal tracks, good brakes are a no-brainer. Letting worn pads slide? That's just asking for trouble.

Signs You've Got Issues
• Brakes squealing like a gutted pig?
• Taking longer to stop than a cafe lunch?
• Brake pedal feeling softer than a newborn lamb?
• Your steering wheel's doing the haka when you brake?
• Pads thinner than a Kiwi saver account balance?

WOF Worries?
Nah mate, you'll fail a WOF faster than you can say 'sweet as' if your brake pads are rooted. They need enough meat left to actually, you know, stop the car.

DIY or Hand It Over?
Difficulty: 6/10 (A bit of a mission)
Time Needed: An afternoon, give or take (1-2 hours per axle)
Gear You'll Need: Jack, axle stands (never skimp on safety!), lug wrench, G-clamp or piston tool, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, wire brush, maybe a pad spreader.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
• Safety First, Mates! Never, ever crawl under a car supported *only* by a jack. Axle stands are your best friends here. Axle Stands
• Brake Dust Be Gone: That black dust is nasty stuff. Give everything a good blast with Brake Cleaner before you start pulling things apart. Keeps the lungs happy and the workspace clean.
• Keep the Hands Clean: Trust me, you don't want that brake dust ground into your skin. Grab some Nitrile Gloves. They're cheap as chips and save you from scrubbing for days.
• Caliper Slide Pins: A tiny dab of Caliper Grease on the caliper slide pins ensures smooth movement and prevents sticking. A little goes a long way.

Bob's Two Cents
I reckon you should swap those pads the moment they start complaining, or you notice any of the warning signs above. The TRW GDB1018s are top-notch, especially for the Terrano II and Pathfinder which can be tough on brakes. Need a hand figuring out what's best for your Nissan? Pop into Bob's Shop – I'm always up for a yarn!

Fitment Notes
These pads are made for a bunch of Nissan Terrano II, Mistral, and Pathfinder models from '86 to '07. Double-check they're the right ones for your year and engine (especially the TD and Di engines) to avoid any headaches.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
