Description

Spark Plug SOS for Your Ford — With Champion
> Spark plugs are the unsung heroes in your classic Ford, whether it's a Falcon GT HO or a trusty Transit van. They spark the bang that gets you moving! But over time, they get gunked up and worn out, leading to a rough ride.
Signs Your Spark Plugs Might Be Toast
• Engine's misfiring, especially when you put your foot down
• Idling rough as guts
• Fuel economy's gone down the drain
• Hard to start in the mornings
• That pesky check engine light's on (if your old girl's got one)
Will it pass WOF?
You bet, as long as she's running smoothly and not blowing smoke like a chimney. Misfires are a WOF killer.
DIY or Workshop?
Difficulty: 4/10
Time Needed: An afternoon in the shed, say 1-2 hours
Gear You'll Need: Spark plug socket, ratchet, extension bar, torque wrench, and a spark plug gap tool.
🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you dive in, a bit of prep goes a long way:
• Safety First, Mates! Engines get hot, so make sure she's stone-cold before you start poking around. And disconnect the battery – just to be safe.
• Blast Away the Grime: Give those spark plug holes a good spray with Brake Cleaner before you pull the old plugs. Stops crud falling into the cylinders.
• A Dab of Lube: A tiny smear of anti-seize grease on the new plug threads makes life easier next time around.
• Keep Those Mitts Clean: Grab some Nitrile Gloves – no one likes oily fingerprints all over their engine bay.
Expert Recommendation
Swapping out spark plugs is just good housekeeping for older Fords like the Fairmont and Transit. If you are unsure then pop in and see me at Bob's Shop and we can work out the right part for your needs!
Fitment Notes
Make sure that spark plug gap is spot-on for your engine. Your service manual will have the details. Some engines are fussy and need specific spark plug types or heat ranges.

🛠️ Bob's Pro Tip: Do the Job Right!
> If you're replacing this spark plug, make sure you've got the right workshop prep, protection, and safety gear ready. Taking a bit of extra time and using the proper safety stands and cleaners makes all the difference for a professional result!

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Always secure your vehicle on heavy-duty safety jack stands before working underneath. Never rely solely on a hydraulic jack.
• Clean Hands: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your skin from grease, oils, and chemical sprays.
• Preparation: Have microfibre towels and a suitable parts cleaner nearby to keep components clean during installation.
