Description

Swapping Out Your Disc Brake Rotors — TRW Style
> Your Mercedes-Benz MB 140 or MB 100's disc brake rotors are dead important. They cop a hiding with friction and heat, especially in tough conditions. Letting them wear too far can seriously mess with your braking and put you in a sticky situation.

Spotting the Warning Signs
• Brakes sound like a pack of seagulls fighting over a chip? (Squealing or grinding).
• Brake pedal doing the shimmy on ya?
• Rotors looking worse for wear with scoring, rust, or dings?
• Taking longer to pull up at the lights?

WOF Woes?
Dodgy brake rotors are a surefire way to fail your WOF here in NZ. They gotta be above minimum thickness and in reasonable nick to pass the test.

Difficulty: 6/10
Time Needed: An hour or two per rotor
Gear You'll Need: Jack and stands (never skip on safety!), lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, and maybe a caliper tool.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you get cracking, safety first! Never, ever get under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Use proper stands, yeah? Grab some safety glasses to keep the crud out of your eyes, and a decent set of nitrile gloves will save your hands from getting covered in brake dust – nasty stuff. While you're at it, give everything a good blast with Brake Cleaner to get rid of that carbon dust and gunk. A wee bit of anti-seize caliper grease where the pads contact the caliper is a good move too, stops things seizing up later on.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from grease and dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use Brake Cleaner to clean the anti-corrosion shipping oil off the new rotors before mounting the calipers.
• Lubrication: Apply caliper grease to caliper slide pins and pad contact points to prevent squealing.
