Swapping Out Your EVO's Brake Rotors — TRW Style
> Your Mitsubishi Lancer EVO's brake rotors are what the brake pads squeeze against to slow you down. EVO's, being the tough machines they are, can really punish rotors with heat and stress. They often crack or warp, especially if you're giving it heaps on track days. Time for a change?
Uh Oh, Sounds Like You've Got These Issues:
• Brake pedal feels like it's vibrating or pulsing
• Brakes are squealing like a pig or grinding
• Taking way too long to stop
• Rotors look like they've been through a war
• Brake pads wearing unevenly
WOF Time Coming Up?
Trust us, dodgy rotors are a surefire way to fail a WOF here in New Zealand. They need to be above the minimum thickness and in good nick to pass the test.
DIY or Get a Pro?
Difficulty: 7/10
Time Needed: 2-3 hours per axle
Gear You'll Need: Jack and stands (never get under a car supported only by a jack!), wheel wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, new brake pads (good idea!), and maybe a brake caliper piston compression tool.
🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you get stuck in, mate, safety first! Grab some safety glasses to keep the metal dust out of your peepers, and a pair of nitrile gloves to keep the hands clean. Now, give everything a good blast with brake cleaner to get rid of any brake dust and grime. When you're putting the new rotors on, a bit of anti-seize caliper grease on the right spots will keep things moving smoothly and prevent any annoying squeals down the line. Sorted!
Bob's Two Cents
Worn rotors? Not ideal, especially on an EVO. Get them sorted to bring back that confident braking, especially when you're pushing it. Pop into Bob's Shop for a yarn, and let's get your EVO stopping like it should!
Important Fitting Tips
Always do both rotors on the same axle, that way you get even braking. Make sure the new rotors are sitting right and torqued up properly. If your EVO's got Brembos, double-check you've got the right rotor type.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from grease and dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use Brake Cleaner to clean the anti-corrosion shipping oil off the new rotors before mounting the calipers.
• Lubrication: Apply caliper grease to caliper slide pins and pad contact points to prevent squealing.
