Swapping Out Your Disc Brake Rotors — TRW Style
> Your Nissan Skyline or Silvia's brake rotors are what the brake pads clamp onto to slow you down. Over time, they cop a hiding from the pads, which means less stopping power, juddering under braking, and could turn into a safety issue, especially if you like to give your ride a bit of stick.
What Clued You In?
• Brake pedal's doing the Macarena (vibrating like crazy)
• Brakes sound like a rusty swing set
• Taking longer to pull up than a cafe lunch queue
• Rotors look like they've been attacked by a grinder
• Brake pads wearing unevenly - suss, aye?
WOF Woes?
Worn rotors are a dead cert for a WOF failure here in NZ. They need to be above the minimum thickness and in good nick to pass the test.

Difficulty: 6/10
Time Needed: 2-3 hours each axle
Gear You'll Need: Jack and stands (good ones!), wheel brace, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, rotor puller (maybe)
🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you get cracking, mate, safety first! Never get under a car that's only held up by a jack – use proper axle stands. Grab some safety glasses to keep the brake dust out of your peepers and nitrile gloves to keep your hands clean. When you've got the old rotors off, give the new ones and calipers a good blast with brake cleaner to get rid of any grease or grime. A wee smear of anti-seize caliper grease on the right spots will keep things moving smoothly, too.
Bob's Two Cents
Worn rotors are a no-brainer when it comes to safety for your Skyline, Fairlady Z, or Silvia. Replacing them will make sure you can stop on a dime and give you peace of mind when you're giving it the berries. Pop into Bob's Shop for a yarn and we'll sort you out with the right parts for your Nissan. Sweet as!
Fitment Notes
Make sure the new rotors are the right match for your specific Nissan model and year – they're not all created equal. Always do both sides of the axle at the same time for balanced braking. Chur!

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from grease and dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use Brake Cleaner to clean the anti-corrosion shipping oil off the new rotors before mounting the calipers.
• Lubrication: Apply caliper grease to caliper slide pins and pad contact points to prevent squealing.
