Swapping Out Your Mercedes-Benz Disc Brake Rotors — TRW Edition
> Your Mercedes-Benz's brake rotors are key to stopping safely. Over time, heat and friction can take their toll, especially if you're giving it a bit of stick in an SLK or cruising around town in a C-Class. They can wear down, warp, or even crack.
Spotting the Warning Signs
• Your brake pedal's doing the Macarena (pulsating or vibrating).
• Sounds like a flock of seagulls when you brake (squealing or grinding).
• Taking longer to pull up at the lights.
• Rotors look like they've seen better days (cracks or deep grooves).
Will it pass WOF?
Dodgy brake rotors are a surefire way to fail your WOF here in New Zealand. They need to be above minimum thickness and crack-free to get the thumbs up.
DIY or Workshop?
Difficulty: 6/10
Estimated Time: 2-3 hours per axle
Tools Required: Jack and stands (never get under a car supported only by a jack!), lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, and maybe a brake caliper tool.
🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you get cracking on those rotors, let's make sure you're set up for success. Safety first, always! Grab yourself some safety glasses to keep the brake dust out of your eyes, and a pair of heavy-duty nitrile gloves to keep your hands clean from all the brake dust. Give those new rotors a good blast with some Brake Cleaner to get rid of any manufacturing oils. And when you're putting everything back together, a wee dab of anti-seize caliper grease on the right spots will keep things moving smoothly. Trust me, it's a no-brainer!
Expert Recommendation
Worn rotors are a risk you don't want to take. Replacing them keeps your braking sweet and stops other parts from getting damaged. Bob's always here at CARFIX to help you nail the right part for your Mercedes-Benz. Pop over to Bob's Shop for a yarn!
Fitment Notes
Double-check the new rotors fit your exact Mercedes-Benz model and year. Rotor sizes can vary, even within the C-Class (W203, W204) and SLK (R171) ranges. Make sure you get the right ones.

• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from grease and dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use Brake Cleaner to clean the anti-corrosion shipping oil off the new rotors before mounting the calipers.
• Lubrication: Apply caliper grease to caliper slide pins and pad contact points to prevent squealing.
