Description

Swapping Out Your Disc Brake Rotors — The TRW Way
> Disc brake rotors are where the magic happens when you hit the brakes. They're the surface your brake pads clamp onto to slow you down. Over time, especially in tough conditions for performance cars like the VW Golf GTi or family wagons like the Skoda Superb, these rotors can wear, warp, or even crack from all the heat and friction. Not ideal, eh?
Spotting the Trouble Signs
• Annoying squeals or grinding when you brake
• Feeling a shake or pulse in the brake pedal
• Your car taking longer to stop than it used to
• Seeing scores, cracks, or rust patches on the rotor itself
WOF Woes?
Worn rotors are a quick way to fail your WOF here in NZ. They need to be above minimum thickness and without major damage to pass the test.

Expert Tip
Dodgy brake rotors mean dodgy stopping, which isn't worth the risk in your Volkswagen Golf or Skoda Superb. Replacing them keeps your braking sharp and saves other parts from damage. Bob at CARFIX can help you nail down the right part for your European ride. Pop into Bob's Shop for a yarn!
🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you get cracking, mate, a little prep goes a long way. Brakes are no joke, so safety first!
• Safety Glasses: Keep those peepers safe from flying dust and debris. Safety Glasses
• Nitrile Gloves: Brake dust is nasty stuff. Keep your hands clean and protected with a decent set of gloves. Nitrile Gloves
• Brake Cleaner: Blast away all that built-up brake dust and grime before you start pulling things apart. Makes the job cleaner and easier. Brake Cleaner
• Caliper Grease: Smear a bit of anti-seize caliper grease on the caliper pins and brake pad contact points to ensure everything moves smoothly and quietly. This prevents binding and uneven wear.

And remember, never, ever get under a car supported only by a jack! Axle stands are cheap as chips and could save your life. Now get to it!
Fitment Notes
Make sure the new rotors fit your exact Volkswagen Golf, Passat, or Skoda Superb model and year. Check the rotor diameter and thickness against the old ones. Some models need special tools to retract the brake calipers. Bob @ CARFIX is always on hand to help you work out exactly what part you need for your European vehicle.
