Description

Renault Vel Satis Brake Rotor Swap: A Kiwi DIY Guide with TRW
> Your Renault Vel Satis' brake rotors are the unsung heroes of stopping power. They put up with a lot – heat, friction, and the odd emergency stop down Queen Street. Over time, they wear down, and that's when things can get a bit hairy. Keep them in top nick for safer motoring.
Spotting the Warning Signs
• Brakes sounding like a startled kererū (squealing or grinding)
• Feeling a bit of a judder through the brake pedal
• Taking longer to pull up at the lights
• Rust or grooves you can see on the rotor itself
• Brake pads wearing unevenly – not ideal!
Will it pass WOF?
Dodgy brake rotors are a quick way to fail a WOF here in NZ. They need to be above the minimum thickness and without any nasty cracks or damage. So, it's worth getting them sorted.
DIY or Workshop?
Skill Level: 6/10 (a bit of a mission, but doable)
Time Needed: Give yourself 2-3 hours per axle
Gear You'll Need: Jack and stands, full set of spanners and sockets, torque wrench (important!), brake cleaner, wheel chocks, gloves, and safety glasses.
🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
• Safety First, Chur: Never, ever get under your Vel Satis when it's only held up by a jack. Use proper stands – it's a no-brainer.
• Cleanliness is King: Brake dust is nasty stuff. Give everything a good blast with Brake Cleaner before you start pulling things apart. It'll make the job much nicer, and you won'll be spreading brake dust everywhere..!
• Protect the Mates: A bit of copper anti-seize on the caliper bolts will make life a lot easier next time you're in there. Grab some Anti-Seize Grease.
• Hand Protection: Brake cleaner and general grime are tough on the skin. A decent pair of Nitrile Gloves are your best mate here.
Expert Recommendation
Worn brake rotors mean less stopping power, and that's not a risk worth taking with your Renault Vel Satis. Swapping them out keeps you safe and sound. Pop into Bob's Shop – I'm always happy to help you find the right bits for your Vel Satis. Give me a yell!
Fitment Notes
Double-check that these rotors are the right fit for your Renault Vel Satis – year and model are key. Different engine options can mean different rotor sizes, so pay attention to the specs.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from grease and dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use Brake Cleaner to clean the anti-corrosion shipping oil off the new rotors before mounting the calipers.
• Lubrication: Apply caliper grease to caliper slide pins and pad contact points to prevent squealing.
