Description

Disc Brake Rotor Replacement Guide — With TRW
> Disc brake rotors are a seriously important bit of kit for stopping safely. They're the surface your brake pads clamp onto. Over time, especially in cars that do a lot of miles like your Toyota Yaris and other compacts, they can wear down or even crack, which means your braking won't be as good as it should be.

Symptoms That Led You Here
• Squealing or grinding when you hit the brakes.
• The brake pedal feels like it's vibrating.
• It takes longer to stop than it used to.
• You can see rust, scoring, or other damage on the rotor.
• Your brake pads are wearing unevenly.

Will it pass WOF?
Worn or damaged brake rotors are a pretty common reason for failing a WOF here in NZ. They need to be above a certain thickness and free from cracks to pass the test.

DIY or Workshop?
Difficulty: 6/10
Estimated Time: 1-2 hours per rotor
Tools Required: Jack and stands, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, and potentially a brake caliper tool.

Right, before you get cracking, let's make sure you're all set. Safety first, eh?
• Safety Glasses: Don't want any of that brake dust or grime in your eyes. Safety Glasses are a no-brainer.
• Nitrile Gloves: Keep your hands clean and protected from harsh chemicals. These heavy-duty Nitrile Gloves will do the trick.
• Brake Cleaner: Blast away all that nasty brake dust and grime before you start pulling things apart. Makes the job much cleaner and easier. Grab a can of Brake Cleaner.
• Caliper Grease: Pop some anti-seize caliper grease on the caliper pins to ensure smooth operation and prevent sticking.

• Brake Dust Protection: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from grease and dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use Brake Cleaner to clean the anti-corrosion shipping oil off the new rotors before mounting the calipers.
• Lubrication: Apply caliper grease to caliper slide pins and pad contact points to prevent squealing.
