Description

Swapping Out Your Mazda RX-7's Disc Brake Rotors — The TRW Way
> Your Mazda RX-7's disc brake rotors are absolutely crucial. They're the unsung heroes working with your brake pads to bring you to a halt. But, like a good cafe lunch, they don't last forever. Especially if you're giving your RX-7 a proper workout, rotors can wear, warp, or even crack under pressure.

Symptoms That Led You Here, Mate
• Your brake pedal's doing the shimmy – vibrating or pulsating like crazy
• Braking sounds like a flock of seagulls fighting over a chip
• Taking longer to stop than you reckon you should
• Rotors looking like they've been through a war – cracks or deep grooves
• Brake pads wearing out unevenly – dodgy, that

Will it pass WOF?
Buggered disc brake rotors are a surefire way to fail a WOF here in NZ. They gotta be within the minimum thickness and free from cracks to get the green light.

DIY or Workshop?
Difficulty: 6/10
Estimated Time: 1-2 hours per rotor
Tools Required: Jack and stands (never get under a car supported only by a jack!), lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, and maybe a brake caliper tool.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you get cracking on those rotors, a few quick things to keep you safe and the job tidy:
• Safety First, Mates! Grab yourself some safety glasses to keep that brake dust out of your peepers. And those nitrile gloves will stop your hands from looking like you've been wrestling a chimney sweep.
• Brake Dust Be Gone: Give those new rotors a good blast with Brake Cleaner. Gets rid of any factory oils or grime. Do the same on your calipers, if you're feeling keen.
• Copper Anti-Seize Grease: A light smear of copper anti-seize on the caliper bolts will make the job easier next time, and also help prevent brake squeal.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from grease and dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use Brake Cleaner to clean the anti-corrosion shipping oil off the new rotors before mounting the calipers.
• Lubrication: Apply caliper grease to caliper slide pins and pad contact points to prevent squealing.
