Description

Swapping Out Your Disc Brake Rotors — TRW Style
> Those disc brake rotors on your Toyota Camry or Vista are real workhorses. They put up with friction, heat, and all sorts of road grit. Over time, they get worn down, and that means your braking isn't as sharp, which can be a bit dicey, especially in heavy traffic.
Tell-tale Signs It's Time for a Change
• Brakes sound like a flock of seagulls or a coffee grinder?
• Feel a wobble in the pedal when you hit the brakes?
• Taking longer to pull up at the lights?
• Rotors look like they've seen better days — scoring, rust, or cracks?
• Brake pads wearing unevenly?
WOF Woes?
Dodgy disc brake rotors are a quick way to fail a WOF here in NZ. They need to be above the minimum thickness and free from cracks to pass the test.

Difficulty: 6/10
Time Needed: An hour or two per rotor
Gear You'll Need: Jack and stands (never get under a car supported only by a jack!), lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, and some Brake Cleaner. You might also need a brake caliper tool.
🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you even think about getting stuck in, make sure you've got these sorted:
• Safety First, Mates! Pop on some Safety Glasses to keep the crud out of your eyes, and grab some Nitrile Gloves to keep the hands clean. Brakes can be dusty metal tracks.
• Cleanliness is Key: Give those new rotors a good blast with Brake Cleaner to get rid of any manufacturing oils. No one wants contaminated pads.
• Protection Prevents Problems: Smear a little copper anti-seize grease on the back of the brake pads to stop any annoying squeals. It's a small price to pay for peace and quiet.
• Lube It Up: A tiny dab of silicon-based grease on the caliper pins will keep everything moving smoothly. Stops them from seizing up over time.
Bob's Two Cents
Worn rotors are a no-brainer when it comes to safety. Replacing them keeps your braking top-notch and avoids any nasty surprises. If you are unsure, pop down to Bob's Shop at CARFIX and we will help you sort it!
Fitment Notes
Double-check that the new rotors are the right fit for your Toyota Camry, Vista, or Ipsum. Make sure the diameter and thickness match what you had before. Some models have different rotor sizes depending on the model.
