Disc Brake Rotor Replacement Guide — Featuring DBA
> Disc brake rotors are the unsung heroes of your Ford Ranger or Mazda B-Series' braking system. They're the surface your brake pads grip to bring you to a halt. Tough conditions, heavy loads, and dusty metal tracks can really punish your rotors, leading to wear and tear, warping, and even cracks. Time for a change, eh?
Symptoms That Led You Here
• Brake pedal pulsation or vibration
• Squealing or grinding noises when braking
• Increased stopping distance
• Visible cracks or grooves on the rotor surface
• Uneven brake pad wear
Will it pass WOF?
Rotors that are too thin or have cracks are a no-go for a WOF. They need to be within the minimum thickness and in good nick to pass the test. Don't get caught out!
DIY or Workshop?
Difficulty: 6/10
Estimated Time: 1.5 - 2 hours per axle
Tools Required: Jack and stands, wheel wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, caliper compressor tool (optional but recommended).
🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you get cracking on those brakes, here's Bob's checklist to keep things safe and tidy:
• Safety First, Mates! Never, ever get under a car supported only by a jack. Use proper axle stands – it's a no-brainer for your safety.
• Blast that Brake Dust: Grab a can of Brake Cleaner to clean the rotors and calipers. Brake dust is nasty stuff, and you don't want to breathe it in.
• Keep Your Hands Clean: Heavy-duty Nitrile Gloves will protect your hands from grease and grime. Trust me, you'll thank me later.
• Anti-Seize is Your Friend: A little dab of anti-seize caliper grease on the right spots will make future brake jobs a breeze. Prevents things from seizing up.
• Eye Protection: Safety glasses are a must. Protect your peepers from flying debris and brake cleaner spray.
Expert Recommendation
Worn rotors mean dodgy brakes, and that's not something to take lightly, especially if you're using your Ranger or B-Series for work or play. Swapping them out gives you better stopping power and peace of mind.
Fitment Notes
Make sure those new rotors are the right fit for your Ranger, Courier, or Mazda B-Series. Double-check the size and bolt pattern. Front and rear rotors can be different, so pay attention!
