Description

Swapping Out Your Disc Brake Rotors — DBA Featured
> Disc brake rotors are dead important for good braking. They wear out over time, especially if you drive a Golf GTi hard or lug heavy loads in your Skoda Superb TDI. Worn rotors mean longer stopping distances and could be a real safety issue.
Spotting the Warning Signs
• Brakes squealing like a pig or grinding like gears
• Brake pedal pulsing or vibrating
• Taking way too long to stop
• Rotors look scored, cracked, or rusty
• Brake pads wearing unevenly
WOF Woes?
Worn brake rotors are a surefire way to fail a WOF here in NZ. Your rotors need to be above the minimum thickness and free from cracks to pass the test.

Difficulty: 6/10
Time Needed: 2-3 hours per axle
Gear You'll Need: Jack and stands, wheel brace, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, and maybe a brake caliper piston tool.
🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you get cracking, mate, safety first! Never get under a car supported only by a jack. Use proper stands, yeah? Grab some Nitrile Gloves to keep your hands clean from all that brake dust (nasty stuff!), and safety glasses are a no-brainer to keep the crud out of your eyes. A can of Brake Cleaner is essential for blasting away brake dust and grease from the new rotors before you fit the pads. And don't forget a dab of anti-seize on the caliper bolts to make life easier next time.
Expert Tip
Worn rotors are a safety risk in your Volkswagen Passat or Audi Q3. Replacing them gives you better braking and prevents damage to other parts. DBA rotors are top-quality, but CARFIX has others. Bob @ CARFIX can help you find the right rotor for your ride. Pop into Bob's Shop for a yarn.
Fitment Notes
Double-check these rotors fit your exact model and year. Some cars need different sizes. Always replace rotors in pairs (both sides) for even braking. Give your wheel bearings a once-over while you've got the rotor off.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from grease and dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use Brake Cleaner to clean the anti-corrosion shipping oil off the new rotors before mounting the calipers.
• Lubrication: Apply caliper grease to caliper slide pins and pad contact points to prevent squealing.
