Description

Swapping Out Your Disc Brake Rotors — DBA Style
> Your disc brake rotors are a seriously important bit of kit; they're the surface your brake pads clamp onto to bring you to a halt. Over time, especially in bigger vehicles like the Nissan Pathfinder and Infiniti QX range, rotors can wear out, warp, or even crack. That means dodgy braking and less safety.
Signs It's Time to Get This Sorted
• Your brake pedal feels like it's vibrating or pulsing
• Brakes are squealing or grinding when you hit the pedal
• Taking longer to stop than usual
• You can see cracks or deep grooves on the rotor
• Your brake pads are wearing unevenly
Will it pass WOF?
Worn or rooted brake rotors are a pretty common reason for failing a WOF here in NZ. Your rotors need to be at least a certain thickness and free from cracks or major wear to pass the test.
DIY or Workshop?
Difficulty: 6/10
Estimated Time: 1-2 hours per rotor
Tools Required: Jack and stands, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, rotor removal tool (optional)
🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you get cracking, mate, safety first! Grab some safety glasses to keep any brake dust or crud out of your eyes. You'll also want some nitrile gloves to keep your hands clean from brake dust. Give your brake components a good blast with Brake Cleaner to get rid of any carbon dust buildup. And don't forget a dab of anti-seize caliper grease on the bolts to keep everything moving smoothly!

Important safety tip: Never, ever get under a car that's only supported by a jack. Use proper stands, or you'll be absolutely gutted.
Expert Recommendation
Dodgy brake rotors mean dodgy braking and less safety. Getting them replaced makes sure you've got good stopping power and stops other brake bits from getting damaged. Bob at CARFIX is always keen to help you figure out what you need for your Nissan or Infiniti. Pop into Bob's Shop for a yarn!
Fitment Notes
Double-check that these rotors fit your exact vehicle model, year, and trim. Some models might have different rotor sizes or setups. Make sure the rotor dimensions and specs are right before you start.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from grease and dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use Brake Cleaner to clean the anti-corrosion shipping oil off the new rotors before mounting the calipers.
• Lubrication: Apply caliper grease to caliper slide pins and pad contact points to prevent squealing.
