Description

Disc Brake Rotor Overhaul — Starring DBA
> Disc brake rotors are a seriously important bit of kit in your Mercedes-Benz's braking setup. Over time, they get hammered by friction and heat, especially if you're giving it a good thrashing in your C-Class or E-Class. Dodgy rotors mean dodgy braking, and nobody wants that.
Symptoms That Led You Here, Aye?
• Brakes sound like a dying cat?
• Steering wheel doing the Macarena when you brake?
• Taking longer to pull up than a cafe lunch?
• Rotors look like they've been attacked by a grinder?
• Brake pads wearing unevenly?
Will it pass WOF?
Worn or rooted brake rotors are a classic reason for failing a WOF here in NZ. Rotors need to be above the minimum thickness and not too mangled to pass the test.
DIY or Workshop?
Grit Rating: 7/10
Time Needed: 2-3 hours per axle
Gear You'll Need: Jack and stands (never get under a car supported only by a jack!), wheel wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, caliper tool (maybe).
🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you even think about cracking open the toolbox, let's sort out a few must-haves to make this job a breeze and keep you safe, eh?
• Safety First, Mates! Grab some Safety Glasses. Brake dust and rust flakes love eyeballs, and trust me; you don't want them there. And don't forget a decent pair of Nitrile Gloves to keep your mitts clean. Brake dust is a bugger to get off.
• Cleanliness is Next to...Well, You Know! Get yourself a can of Brake Cleaner. Give those rotors and calipers a good blast to get rid of all the old brake dust and grime. It'll help everything bed in nicely.
• Don't Forget the Lube! A wee smear of anti-seize [Caliper Grease] on the caliper pins and the back of the pads will keep everything moving smoothly and stop those annoying squeals. Copper grease works a treat too.
Expert Recommendation
Dodgy brake rotors are a no-brainer when it comes to safety. Swapping them out will get your braking back to its best and give you peace of mind. The DBA rotor is a top choice for your C-Class or E-Class, giving you better performance and lasting longer. 🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from grease and dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use Brake Cleaner to clean the anti-corrosion shipping oil off the new rotors before mounting the calipers.
• Lubrication: Apply caliper grease to caliper slide pins and pad contact points to prevent squealing.
