Description

Cracking the Spark Plug Code: A Replacement Guide — Powered by BOSCH
> Spark plugs, eh? They're the little blighters that kick-start the combustion in your petrol engine. But give 'em enough stick and they'll start to degrade – think heat, wear, and carbon build-up. Next thing you know, your Subaru Impreza, Nissan X-Trail, or Toyota Vitz is running rough as guts.
Symptoms That Led You Here
• Engine's misfiring, giving you a rough idle and some hesitation.
• Fuel economy's gone down the gurgler, meaning more trips to the petrol station.
• Engine's struggling to start, especially on those frosty mornings.
• That pesky 'check engine' light's decided to light up on the dash.
• Acceleration's sluggish, and performance is generally down in the dumps.
Will it pass WOF?
Dodgy spark plugs can cause your emissions to go sky-high, which could mean a big fat fail on your WOF. Keep your spark plugs in tip-top shape to ace that emissions test, mate.
DIY or Workshop?
Difficulty: 6/10
Estimated Time: 1-2 hours
Tools Required: Spark plug socket, ratchet, extension, torque wrench, spark plug gap tool.
Expert Recommendation
Swapping out those spark plugs is a no-brainer for keeping your engine humming sweetly and saving a few pennies at the pump in motors like the Subaru Forester and Nissan Dualis. 🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you get cracking, make sure you've got all your ducks in a row. Safety first, always!
• Safety Glasses: Don't want any stray bits of carbon ending up in your peepers. Grab a pair of Safety Glasses.
• Nitrile Gloves: Keep your mitts clean and protected from grease and grime. A good set of Nitrile Gloves is a lifesaver.
• Brake Cleaner: Give those spark plug threads a good blast to remove any gunk. Brake Cleaner does the trick nicely.

Fitment Notes
Make sure that spark plug gap is spot-on for your engine. Have a squiz at your car's service manual to get the right measurement. Some of the newer models, especially those with direct injection, might need some special tools to get those plugs out.

🛠️ Bob's Pro Tip: Do the Job Right!
> If you're replacing this spark plug, make sure you've got the right workshop prep, protection, and safety gear ready. Taking a bit of extra time and using the proper safety stands and cleaners makes all the difference for a professional result!

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Always secure your vehicle on heavy-duty safety jack stands before working underneath. Never rely solely on a hydraulic jack.
• Clean Hands: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your skin from grease, oils, and chemical sprays.
• Preparation: Have microfibre towels and a suitable parts cleaner nearby to keep components clean during installation.
